One of my favourite things to do around Christmas time is curl up with a blanket, watch a Christmas movie and have a good mug of hot chocolate. Honestly, it’s why I love this time of year. Okay, the dark mornings and evenings aren’t the best, the cold is somewhat of a shock and budgets are stretched by spending on presents. However, this is simply why this holiday of ours thrives. The atmosphere surrounding Christmas is enough to cheer us up during these dull, gloomy, cold days.
The bright lights, the comfort food, the alcohol to make you jolly and the presents that you give and receive. I mean it’s the time of year when we have hope and happiness more than usual. And then come January we all get post Christmas blues.
This is where the hot chocolate comes in. It’s warm and comforting in these dark, cold months. There’s nothing better than a hot drink when you’ve just come home in the dark from a busy day at work. Honestly, it’s the best. And the beauty of this recipe is make a big batch of powder that you’ve simply got to heat up with some milk to enjoy this beautiful drink.
Makes 1 jar
100g brown sugar
150g cocoa/cacao powder
100g dark chocolate, finely chopped
Big pinch of salt
Pinch of cayenne pepper (a little goes a long way)
A cinnamon stick
Simply mix all the ingredients together in a jar.
To make the hot chocolate combine 1 tbsp of the powder with 250ml of your milk of choice. Enjoy!
